Cosmetic composition (A), which is essentially free from saturated hydrocarbons, contains (a) a lipid phase of mono-, di- and/or tri-glycerides (G) containing 18-36C, optionally branched, fatty acid groups, and at least one ester (E) of a hydroxy carboxylic acid and an optionally branched saturated 15-49C alcohol; and (b) optionally water, other lipids, emulsifiers and other usual agents, additives and adjuvants. Also claimed is the use of a cosmetic composition (A') as above, where (E) has the formula R2OC(O)(CH2)nCH(R1)OC(O)(CH2)mCH(OH)R3 (I), as a lip care product. R1, R3 = 3-30C saturated hydrocarbon residue; R2 = 5-50C saturated hydrocarbon residue; and m, n = 5-25.
