OPTICAL INFORMATION READER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical information reader capable of reading out a one-dimensional(1D) bar code without depending upon the image forming position of an image at the time of using a two-dimensional(2D) image sensor as a reading medium and capable of efficiently reading out also a multistage 2D bar code and reducing the necessary capacity of a memory. SOLUTION: An entering part 16 enters binary data for plural lines so as to insert space every (n) lines out of binary data corresponding to a gradation signal outputted from a 2D image sensor part 14. A bar code identifying part 21 extracts binary data expressing a bar/space array pattern out of the entered binary data for plural lines. Then 1D bar code identification processing or multistage 2D bar code identification processing is executed based on the extracted binary data.
