At such a time, at the infrared image pickup device, the current in-view average temperature TR is compared with a main in-view average temperature T0 up to the moment stored in a memory 11. In that case, since the condition of TR≫To is established, the rotary angle of an edge prism 6 is controlled by a wedge prism control part 9, and beams from a heat source 3A reflected by a reflecting mirror 5-1 are transmitted to an infrared detector 2. As a result, at the detector 2, stable image pickup information is always outputted even when the in-view temperature is rapidly changed by the takeoff and landing of the airplane or the like. Thus, this device is remarkably contributed for improving accuracy of image analysis, etc.
