<p>A packet-based telecommunications system (20) for carrying calls between subscribers (S1, S2), has a call processor (24) for calculating an equivalent bandwidth of a new call, and for identifying if the system has sufficient capacity to accept that call, and an accounting centre (23) to charge subscribers for their calls. Call processor (24) is coupled (25) to the accounting centre (23) and passes the equivalent bandwidth information to the accounting centre. The accounting centre may use the equivalent bandwidth information in a cost model to charge a subscriber for their call. System (20) may be a broadband ATM system.</p> |
