PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer whose borosilicate glass does not melt easily and nozzles are protected from clogging in an ink jet printer wherein a recording head is filled with water-soluble ink and performs printing, and provide a recording ink. SOLUTION: An ink jet printer which discharges and jets water-soluble ink containing urea or thiourea and a specified surfactant from a nozzle hole 4 of a recording head where the nozzle hole 4, a nozzle groove 11 which communicates with the nozzle hole 4 and a discharge chamber 6 are formed by joining a borosilicate glass substrate 3 and a silicon substrate 1, and records a dot image on a recording medium.
