An eyelet for a draw cord fastening, such as may be used, for example on an item of clothing, includes as an integral part of it retention means 6 by which a cord threaded through the eyelet can then be secured at the eyelet. The integral arrangement reduces the work and costs involved in production of the eyelet. A base component 3 of the eyelet secured with appreciable overlap on, around an opening in, sheet material of an article to which the eyelet is applied, so as to spread stresses on the material. A cord threaded through the eyelet extends through the base component and opening. The retention means may be in various forms, e,g. a cleat 3 for the cord to wrap around, a wedging channel, passage or tube for the cord to be jammed in, relatively movable elements between which the cord can be trapped, a wedge or jamming member operable to trap the cord in an aperture or passage, or a slide operable on a rack to tighten and slacken a cord connected to the slide. |
