Beverage can with reduced iron release

A beverage an of sheet metal, esp. A1 or steel, is closed with a double fold, the area of which contains a sealing material ("compound") with chlorine-free base components, including a friction-reducing additive (I). Also claimed is (i) a similar can with a sealing cpd. contg. a lubricant; (ii) a sealing cpd. for cans, contg. a friction-reducing additive (I); (iii) a lid for a beverage can made of sheet metal with a sealing cpd. contg. (I). Pref. additive (I) comprises low-mol. wt. waxes, medium- and high-mol. wt. polymers or mixts. thereof; these additives are incompatible or only slightly compatible with the base components of the compound. Pref. (I) comprises or contains polypropylene, polyethylene, polyamide and/or PTFE. The base components comprise water-based or solvent-based, chlorine-free, uncrosslinked or crosslinked natural or synthetic rubber, pref. contg. natural or synthetic resin(s) esp. hydrocarbon resins. Suitable rubbers are styrene-diene elastomers or thermoplastic elastomers, esp. styrene-diene-styrene 3-block copolymers, with isoprene or butadiene as the diene. After folding, the cpd. covers at least the radius of the clasp on the body of the can, pref. with the other part of the fold consisting of conventional sealing material.
