<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To multiplex the ATM cell streams consisting of many input ports into a single cell stream in an effective and simple circuit device constitution. SOLUTION: The ATM cell streams 101A to 108A consisting of 96 input ports undergo the cell multiplexing every 8 streams via a simple traffic shaping function 40 that can prevent a certain input channel signal from affecting other channels. Then the cell included in one of plural cell streams which is previously multiplexed in a multiplexing block of the next stage is multiplexed. At the same time, another stream that may possibly be sent in a multiplex state is retrieved and undergoes the effective ATM cell multiplexing. Therefore, an ATM cell multiplexing device can be constructed in terms of a building block despite a large number of input ports. Thus it is possible to flexibly deal with the increase/decrease of input ports. In addition, the transmission efficiency is improved since the cell multiplexing is possible in every unit.</p> |
