PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the display grade, productivity and yield by specifying the hardness of the oriented films of org. high-polymer thin films to impart the orientability of liquid crystals, thereby lessening the occurrence of stripes, uneven display, etc., in a lighting state by flawing and nonuniformity at the time of rubbing of the oriented films and making it possible to adopt the wider setting conditions of a rubbing device. SOLUTION: The oriented films 15, 16 of the liquid crystal display element constituted by enclosing the liquid crystals 19 between a pair of substrates 11, 12 are so formed as to constitute the single-layered structure of the org. high-polymer thin films having hardness of >=2H in pencil hardness. After the oriented films 15, 16 are adhered onto the substrates 11, 12, the substrates 11, 12 are subjected to rubbing orientation treatments by a rubbing device at the time of forming the oriented films 15, 16. Namely, the substrates 11, 12 are placed on a stage by position the oriented films 15, 16 as front surfaces and while the substrates 11, 12 are fed by the movement of the stage, the oriented films 15, 16 are subjected to the rubbing treatments by a roller. The term 'pencil hardness' refers to the hardness measured by the 'Pencil Scratch Testing Machine for Coating Films' stipulated by JIS(Japanese Industrial Standards). |
