METHOD FOR DETECTING DAMAGE OF WATER BARRIER SHEET LAID ON WASTE DISPOSAL SITE AND GAS ABSORPTION MEMBER USED THEREIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the damage of a water barrier sheet before polluted water leaks out by a method wherein a gas absorption member made of a hydrophobic porous hollow yarn film is provided in a monitoring layer formed between the water barrier sheet and the ground and the absorbed gas is analyzed. SOLUTION: A water barrier sheet 4 laid on the ground 2 isolates a monitoring layer 5 with the ground 2 so that the influence of a gas or the like that rises from the ground 2 is eliminated. A water barrier sheet 3 laid on the ground 2 and the water barrier sheet 4 are sealed by adhering or welding to prevent rain water from entering into the monitoring layer 5. The monitoring layer 5 is constituted of a material such as sand having a good permeability to gas and water so that the gas discharged out from a waste 9 can easily leaks into the monitoring layer 5 and spreads therein. A gas absorption member 6 is provided in the monitoring layer 5 and the gas absorbed via the monitoring layer 5 is introduced to a gas analyzer 12 via a conduit 7 to be analyzed, thereby detecting the damage of the water barrier sheet 4.
