Method of filling containers esp. motor vehicle fuel tanks

The method involves detecting container tanking or filling processes. A tanking process is stopped on the basis of a pressure cycle characteristic of a tanking process. Preferably the pressure cycle is measured within a predetermined time period. The tanking process may be closed on detecting a pressure higher than a predetermined value. The container may be e.g. a vehicle fuel tank. In using the process in relation to a vehicle fuel tank with a diagnostic system for testing the functioning of a tank air removal system a pressure measurement may be carried out.
