[Also in Division F2] A spring clamp for holding together joints of glass pipes 1, 2 having shoulders 1a, 2a, comprises two-armed levers 3, 4 which are pivotably connected together .between their ends, a first arm 3a, 4a of each of said levers being formed as a fork for engagement under a respective pipe-shoulder, while the other arm of each lever is formed as a handle 3b, 4b, a spring 5 .being provided .between the levers to urge said first arms 3a, 4a towards each other, wherein the branches of the fork-arms are resiliently movably transverse to the pipeaxes. In the construction shown additional pressure can be applied between the handles to urge the forked arms towards each other, by a knurled nut 7- which is threaded onto a screwed member 6 attached to the handle 4b, the nut being movable into engagement with the handle 3b. Each arm consists of a resilient U-shaped member which provides the fork and a member 3d, 4d which is secured to the U-shaped member by lugs 3c or 4c and which member also receives the pivot pin 3e by which the levers are connected together. When the clamp is used for securing the two parts of a ground glass ball and socket joint instead of the taper joint shown, the lever 4 is provided with a lug 8 having a hooked end portion 8a which engages the joint to prevent or hinder movement of the joint. |
