According to one embodiment of the present invention, a continuous length of wire is shaped to include a pair of interlocking hooks (2, 18), one each located at the end of a holding prong (4, 16), and disposed outward. The prong extension traverses the inner side of a pan lid, and is of such a length as to allow the interlocking hooks (2, 18) at one end to protrude under any pan lid lip. The prong extension terminates at the bottom in a retaining hook (6, 14) and a catch notch (8, 12). The catch notches (8, 12) are connected via a horizontal extension (10).
