PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound having 5α-reductase inhibiting action and useful as a preventing or treating medicine for prostatic hypertrophy from cultured products obtained by culturing dicephalosterol producing bacterium belonging to the genus Dicepholaspora. SOLUTION: This new dicephalosterol has a structural formula expressed by the formula and has a molecular formula of C30 H48 O6 (measured by high resolution mass spectrometry), 504 molecular weight (measured by mass spectrometry) and 152 deg.C melting point and needle crystal and is soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, chloroform, dimethyl sulfoxide, benzene, ether and ethyl acetate and insoluble in water and is positive to coloring reactions with sulfuric acid and iodine and has 5α-reductase inhibiting action and is useful for preventing and treating prostatic hypertrophy. The compound is obtained by culturing a dicepharosterol-producing bacterium [e.g. Dicephalosporarufocornea (Berkeley & Broome) Spooner SANK 10695, etc.] belonging to the genus Dicephalospora. |
