A method of applying extensive decorative textile or film-like material to a shaped part entails placing the material on a mounting piece so a certain surplus is left over, heating material and mounting, supporting the mounting completely on both sides and bending the projecting edge of decorative material round the mounting piece. While the heated mounting piece with its applied decoration is supported a sliding plate is moved from an external position sideways w.r.t. the piece edge towards its undecorated side. Plate and a punch on the undecorated side move vertically one w.r.t. the other and the decorated material bent round and laid on the rim of the mounting piece edge is cut off. Also claimed is appts. for implementation of the method comprising heater for the mounting piece, support (14) for the mounting piece (18) decorated side, a punch (12) having a blade (22) for at least the border of the mounting piece undecorated side and the sliding plate (24) which can be moved sideways on a level with the undecorated side of the mounting piece.
