PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to manufacture a secondary lithium ion battery having a carbon anode into which inactivated Li can be intercalated and provide a battery which is well-balanced from the stoichiometrical view point and can be manufactured using an inactivated carbon. SOLUTION: This method is a method to manufacture a secondary lithium ion battery having a carbon anode 28 and in the method, carbon is heated in the presence of oxygen at sufficient temperature for a sufficient time to selectively oxidize undesirable and highly reactive carbon atoms more than the rest of carbon atoms before assembly of a battery. Consequently, a method involving a process to inactivate the carbon anode 28 is provided and also a battery which is well-balanced from a stoichiometrical view point is manufactured using the inactivated carbon. |
