1,176,993. Evaporators; spray drying. P. R. LAGUILHARRE. 7 April, 1967 [21 April, 1966], No. 16118/67. Heading B1B. Spray drying is carried out in a chamber 1 which has a conical base 2 provided with a central opening associated with a hollow cylindrical element 4 having slots 4a which can be closed by movable plates (not shown), the lower part of the chamber being equipped with a shaft 6 on which are mounted rotary radial arms 8 carrying adjustable scrapers 12 and nozzles 11 for compressed air. The arrangement is such that, if desired, efficient separation of dried powder and drying air can be effected within the lower part of the tower, the drying air being discharged through duct 5, and the dried powder being swept by scrapers 12 to the outlet 13. Alternatively, the slots 4a are uncovered and the opening 13 is closed so that the dried powder is discharged together with the drying air through duct 5, which leads to a cyclone separator. Compressed air from pipe 10 is supplied to nozzles 11 through the hollow shaft 6. Deflector 17 regulizes the distribution of hot air, supplied to the top of the drying chamber.
|
