1,195,890. Fluid pressure brakes. SOC. ANON. ANDRE CITROEN. 23 Nov., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No.53441/67. Heading F2F. In a braking system for a towing vehicle (or tractor) and trailer, a main tank 1 supplies pressurized fluid to the tractor brake line 9 and the trailer brake line 10 under control of a distributor 5, a reserve tank 18 supplying pressurized fluid to the distributer valve 15 for the tractor so as to oppose the action of the actuator 6 and thus delay braking of the tractor relative to that of the trailer. The line 17 coupling the underside of the tractor valve 15 to the reserve tank 18 is connected between a shut off valve 23 and a breakaway coupling 22 so as to allow rapid tractor braking when the trailer is uncoupled. The fluid is preferably compressed air supplied via non-return valves 3, 20. A reduction valve 24 may be included in the reserve line to the underside of the tractor valve 15. The reserve line 21 may maintain the shoes of the reserve brake of the trailer in the "off" condition.
|
