PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive developing device with which a sufficient solid density is assured without the occurrence of fogging in a background part and there are no ghosts. SOLUTION: The values of the voltage impression time a/f within one period and the electric field intensity (|Vmax|-|VH|)/d on a non-image part from a developer carrying member 2 to a latent image carrying member 1 of the developing device having a power source means 8 for intermittently impressing developing bias DC voltage by turning on and off are set in an adequate range and the magnetic force TR of a trimming magnetic pole 6 is set in a adequate range. The values of the voltage impression time a/f within one period and the electric field intensity (|Vmax|-|VL|)/d on an image part from the developer carrying member 2 to the latent image carrying member 1 are set in an adequate range and the magnetic force TR of the trimming magnetic pole 6 is set in the correct range. Further, the value of the electric field intensity (|Vmax|-|VL|)/d on the image part from the developer carrying member 2 to the latent image carrying member 1 are set in an adequate range and the magnetic force TR of the trimming magnetic pole 6 is set in the adequate range.
