A machine for cutting tyre cord fabric 13 on the bias comprises horizontal belts 12 for feeding the fabric stepwise into a cutting position, an angularly-adjustable pivotally-mounted frame 14 having a cutter 19 movable therealong, a bar 30 secured to the frame for supporting the belts and a vertically-movable clamp 35 for clamping the fabric when the belts are stationary. A plate 29 secured to the frame 14 is positioned over the belts. The clamp has pistonrods secured thereto associated with pistons 39 movable in fluid-actuated cylinders 40. The clamp and cylinders are supported by a member 33 secured to the frame 14. The cutter is driven by a motor 21 and is mounted on a carriage 22 which is connected to a chain 25 passing over a sprocket 26 driven by a reversible motor 28 and over an idler sprocket 27. With the belts stationary, the carriage is moved from the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 1, to actuate limit switch 42 which operates a valve 43 permitting pressure fluid to enter the upper ends of the cylinders 40 thereby moving the clamp downwardly to clamp the fabric. As the carriage reaches the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 1, limit switch 45 is actuated which reverses the motor 28 and actuates the valve 43 so that pressure fluid enters the lower ends of the cylinders 40 to thereby raise the. clamp. |
