Prepn. of alkenes by partial hydrogenation of alkynes in the liq. phase at 20-250 degrees C and 0.3-200 bar partial hydrogen pressure using a palladium catalyst-comprises:(a) the use of a solid bed carrier-supported catalyst obtd. by tempering the carrier material in air, cooling, coating with metallic palladium under vacuum, shaping and processing into monolithic catalyst element; and (b) the addn. of 10-18 ppm carbon monoxide to the hydrogen.
