PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce total number of working man-hours by detecting in advance the places where an object to be joined is missing, in continuously proceeding with a number of operations in which parallel seam welding is performed on metallic covers such as covar in a ceramic package like a semiconductor integrated circuit. SOLUTION: A number of objects (works) to be joined are laid out on a palette. A large current is supplied with the upper edge of the work press- contacted by a pair of roller electrodes 301, 331. At this time, the absence/ presence of the work is detected by a sensor 302. In detecting the work, if a distance (d) between the roller electrodes 301, 331 is short of the absolutely minimum distance of the sensor 302, the distance is temporarily expanded. With the presence of the work, a prescribed distance is set for the welding operation; with the absence of the work, it is proceeded to the next coordinate. |
