PURPOSE: To alternately observe a right eye image and a left eye image by alternately transmitting and shielding the right eye image and the left eye image which are outputted to different pixels of a 1st spatial modulation element by a 2nd spatial modulation element. CONSTITUTION: Light is emitted in light emitting areas for right and left eyes in time-division manner by a monochromatic CRT 5. The light emitting area for right eye is focused only on observer's right eye through a Fresnel lens 4, the light emitting area for left eye is focused on observer's left eye through the Fresnel lens 4, then, the display by a color liquid crystal display 2 is repeated in the time-division manner so that the observer can observe only by his right eye and so that he can observe only by his left eye. As for a monochromatic liquid crystal panel 3, the image is repeatedly transmitted and shielded by a synchronizing device 8 in synchronism with the time division of the monochromatic CRT 5. That is, when the light for right eye is emitted in the CRT 5, a part adjacent to a display pixel for right eye is made transitive and an adjacent part for left eye is made in a shielded state on the monochromatic liquid crystal panel 3. |
