A sealing washer for creating a seal around a piston rod of circular cross-section comprises an annular sealing element (2) with a sector-shaped gap (3), and a closure element (1) comprising a main element (1e) which fits the gap (3) so that the main element (1e) following the circumferential direction of the sealing element (2) can fit into the gap to create a single sealing washer from the two elements (1, 2). This arrangement creates an excellent seal in the axial direction relative to the sealing washer.
