<p>The insulation consists of panels (4) fixed to the tank surface, the tank being mounted on an annular support at its equatorial plane. At the top edge of the insulating material for the tank bottom half, mouldings (6) are inserted on the inside of the support (2), between the tank and the insulation. The joint between the insulation and the inside of the support is elastic in the peripheral direction over the bottom tank half, from its equator to its south pole. It can be formed by strips (7) in loose layers one above the other, and joined at their ends to blocks (8,9) fixed to the mouldings and the panels. These are typically glued to the blocks along their longitudinal edges. The strips can be wider than the distance between the blocks, being bent at right angles along the sides so as to bear against the block faces.</p> |
