A building member with improved characteristics and a method for making the same is provided. The building members may be provided in sandwich configuration with a foam core (16) and outer skins (12, 14). The foam is preferably polyurethane, while the outer skins preferably comprise sheet metal. A plurality of the building members (11, 13) may be assembled together using assembly members (19) to form wall or rooves and may be conveniently provided as a building system that can be provided in kit form.
