The casing (11) of the window is integrated in the structure of the building. The double glazed unit (30) is surrounded on its edges by a plastic frame (20). The surround frame is sealed to the glass plates (30) by waterproof rubber sealing strips (51, 52). The upper part of the surround frame carries a permanent magnet (81) in the cavity between the inner flange (22) and the casing (11). Mounted in the casing is a small electronic unit. The unit consists of an induction loop (82), an electronic oscillator and detection circuit (83) and a short range transmitter (85). The unit is powered by an internal battery (84). If an attempt is made to open the window after the system is armed, the transmitter triggers a remote alarm circuit.
