<p>Cable restrained reciprocating blade system (10) for extracting energy from a moving body of water convertable to electric energy includes blade (12) for undergoing lateral movement in response to contact with the moving water, control cable (14) attached to an upstream end of blade (12) for applying a condition of tension to blade (12), pair of power cables (28) attached at a downstream end of blade (12) and extending transverse to the direction of flow of the moving water and in opposite directions from blade (12), and load mechanism (18) connected to power cables (28) for alternately applying conditions of tension and slack to orient blade (12) at an angle of attack causing blade (12) to undergo lateral movement through an oscillatory path transverse to the direction of flow of the moving water and reverse direction at opposite ends of the path to thereby extract energy from the moving water.</p> |
