PURPOSE: To obtain an exhaust gas purifying catalyst enhanced in low temp. activity as compared with a conventional catalyst and having excellent catalytic activity even in a changing whole exhaust gas compsn. atmosphere of a car. CONSTITUTION: This exhaust gas purifying catalyst has a catalytic component support layer containing at least palladium and a metal aluminate powder as catalyst components and characterized by that the metal aluminate powder contains at least one element selected from a group consisting of chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and zinc. Alumina composite oxide used in the production of the catalyst is obtained by dissolving or dispersing a water-soluble salt of at least one element selected from chromium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel and zinc and a water-soluble salt of aluminum in water and adding at least one kind of an aq. soln. such as aq. ammonia to the obtained soln. or dispersion to adjust the pH thereof to 7.0-9.0 and removing moisture from the soln. or dispersion to dry and bake the residue. |
