PURPOSE: To shorten the processing time when the monochromatic binary data are expanded by a color printer controller. CONSTITUTION: A color memory 43 is exclusively used for colors, and a main memory 17 is used for monochromes. When the single-pixel data consisting of 32 bits (8 bits×4) of four colors YMCK are expanded into the memory 43 of 16M bits, every bit map is expanded as if there were 32 (8×4) frame memories M0 to M7. When the image data expanded into both memories 43 and 17 are printed out by a printer unit 3, these data are sent to a PCI bus 12 and then to the unit 3 via a SCSI controller 20.
