The device has respective non-linear circuits (3) connected between the nodes (2) between the series cells (1) of the electric battery and a common star point (4). The working point of the characteristic of each non-linear circuit is controlled by a component (5), e.g. a variable resistance, connected between the star point and an end node (0), or a selected intermediate node of the battery, with the parameters of the individual cells determined from the electrical values obtained at the star point for the different component values.
