1,266,700. Valves. KNORR-BREMSE G.m.b.H. 5 June, 1969 [7 June, 1968], No. 28597/69. Heading F2V. In a pressure relief valve, which is adapted for use with compressed air installations, the closure member 8 is subjected to an adjustable spring force 15, is slidable within a chamber 11 which has formed therein a port 10 leading to atmosphere, and carries an annular resilient sealing gasket 7, whilst the spigot 1, which has formed therein the fluid inlet 2, is formed with two concentric upstanding annular projections 3 and 4 which together act as seats for the gasket 7. The innermost projection 3 has a height greater than the outermost projection 4, this being clearly depicted in Fig. 2, and between the two projections there opens a restricted throttling passage 6 the other end of which communicates with the interior of chamber 11 and hence with atmosphere via port 10. In operation, the arrangement of seats and the presence of passage 6 ensures rapid opening of the valve member upon the cracking pressure being exceeded, this being the result of an increase in surface area of the valve member upon which the controlled fluid pressure acts. |
