Electrodes for continuous glass melting furnaces are produced by reducing electrical mol. resistance of a sintered SnO material by cooling it after heating to temp. range either corresponding to or just before sintering temp., in an inert non-oxidising and non-reducing atm. Pref. inert amt. is maintained down to cooling to 900 degrees C.; pref. sintering temp. is 1400-1500 degrees C.; and pref. inert amt. is N2, CO2, rare gas or vacuum. Pref. SnO contains small amounts mineraliser, mor pref. 0.5% CuO, and resistance lowering material, more pref. 1% Sb2O3.
|
