<p>The scanner operates by deflecting the beam (6) from a laser (5) onto a line (8) along the document to be scanned as it moves around a support roller (2). The light reflected from the document is detected by a "line photo detector" (9). The deflection device is a twelve sided polygonal rotating mirror (7). When no document is on the roller, the beam scans a pre-printed calibration chart (10) on the surface of the roller. The resultant image gives the user data about the alignment of the beam and other characteristics of the scanning system.</p> |
