PURPOSE: To obtain a light source, a discharge lamp lighting unit and a lighting fixture in which both the power supply and an inverter can be protected by detecting occurrence of abnormal load surely through simple circuitry. CONSTITUTION: When a DC stabilized power supply circuit 33 does not function normally due to an abnormal load, for example, abnormality of the power supply circuit 33 is detected at first. Operation of the power supply circuit 33 feeding a DC power supply voltage to an inverter 40 is then interrupted followed by the interruption of operation of the inverter 40. With such arrangement, the inverter 40 as well as the DC stabilized power supply circuit 33 can be protected. |
