The guard (10) is constituted by two opposed spindles (17,31) which penetrate into the poultry nostrils. One of the two spindles (17) is fixed directly to the device and the other movable one (30) is connected by a runner (18). The movable spindle can be displaced longitudinally in the runner bore (20). The clearance between spindles is limited by a stud (33) located at one end of its rod (31) and by an operating head (32) located at the other end. An annular strip (34), located just under the head of the movable spindle, and a groove (21) in the runner bore inlet enable its temporary longitudinal fixing to the runner, at the end of bringing together the two spindles.
