Described is a coupling for tubular-shaft instruments, the coupling being designed to link securely and detachably the instrument or part or the instrument, such as a handle, to the shaft and to be fitted either to the shaft or to the instrument. The coupling proposed has a rotating sleeve disposed round the shaft mounting, and the instrument has at least one recess in the outside surface at the coupling end or the shaft has at least one recess. Located between the rotating sleeve and the shaft mounting in the axial direction, as defined by the longitudinal axis of the shaft, is a movable locking sleeve designed to engage with at least one outwards-moving snap-in element, the joint between the instrument and the coupling or the shaft and the coupling being established when the snap-in element(s) engage in the recess(es).
