On a gear shaft (5) of a gearwheel change gear a ring-shaped engagement muff carrier (6) is non-rotatively and axially immovably arranged. Directly adjacent to the engagement muff carrier a gearwheel (4) is fitted rotatively and axially immovably on the gear shaft. On its face side facing the engagement muff carrier, the gearwheel is provided with a coupling ring (27) concentric to the rotary axis (7-7). On the coupling ring outer periphery is provided an outer axial coupling tooth formation (8). The engagement muff carrier has on its outer periphery an axial driver tooth formation (9), in which an engagement muff (10) with an inner axial coupling tooth formation (11) non-rotatively and axially displaceably engages.
