Conveying, slicing and packaging half loaves, starting from whole bread loaves (B) which are conveyed by conveyor (3) in a direction perpendicular to their longitudinal direction to a slicing means (8) disposed in the path of the conveyor. The loaves are sliced in halves, one of which halves is accelerated and turned 180 deg by means of a driven turntable (13) to bring all the half loaves in position one behind the other with the cut ends facing the same way. The turntable (13) cooperates with a second conveyor (14) provided with a pushing means (15) for conveying the half loaves (H) to a bread slicing machine, where they are cut into slices and packaged.
