IMAGE PROCESSING METHOD AND ITS DEVICE

PURPOSE: To attain a sharp image free from a blur by emphasizing an edge of an original in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions based on a setting value corresponding to a magnification of a copy image and an adjustment value of image density so as to attain well balancing in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions even when any copy magnification and image density are selected. CONSTITUTION: An image processing unit 3 has a linear image sensor 4, an image processing circuit 5 including a Laplacian filter in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions, an operation panel 6 selecting and entering a copy size and an image density level, and a CPU control circuit 7 or the like. A constant deciding a degree of edge emphasis corresponding to each stage of the magnification and the image density level is set to the image processing circuit 5 in the horizontal and vertical scanning directions. Then an optional magnification and an optional density level are set to form an image and the linear image sensor 4 reads an original image at an original carrying speed in response to the magnification. The read image data are subject to edge emphasis based on a preset value with respect to a border of low and high density areas by the image processing circuit 5, then a sharp image is obtained.
