The furniture has at least two modules (2, 3) which each have two vertical uprights (4, 5, 4', 5'). They are joined together by horizontal parallel shelves (6, 9). One section (3) can slide along some shelves (6) to form a space between the modules. The inner upright (5, 4') of each upright has slots (7, 7') in which the shelves slide to give a variable separation between the modules. The edge of one sliding shelf is concealed by a bar (8). The other shelves (9) are fixed and the furniture can have drawers or doors.
