<p>A method of desalinating brine or seawater by using a hollow-fiber reverse osmosis membrane, and an apparatus for practicing the method aiming at providing a novel, simple and economical method capable of prolonging the lifetime of a reverse osmosis membrane, and an apparatus for practicing this method. The method is characterized in that it includes the steps of supplying raw seawater to a vertically extending cylindrical reverse osmosis membrane apparatus without pretreating the seawater, having this raw seawater flow from a core pipe, which is provided so as to extend along the axis of the reverse osmosis membrane apparatus, into a fiber layer in the apparatus through an inner circumferential space provided between the core pipe and an inner circumferential surface of the fiber layer, and discharging the seawater through an outer circumferential space provided between an outer circumferential surface of the fiber layer and an outer cylinder of the reverse osmosis membrane apparatus.</p> |
