PURPOSE: To provide a method for treating gas and device therefor which is capable of removing by combustion a bad smell component and a harmful component in the waste gas containing a great amount of harmful substances deteriorating a catalyst performance such as combustible dust, alkali metals, silicon or the like and excellent in operating property. CONSTITUTION: A waste gas stream containing a large amount of combustible dust is passed through a catalyst layer 5 containing Cu as a main active component (for example, Cu/K/Mn are incorporated) in a condition within a range of 0.5-3m/s linear velocity and then the stream is passed through the catalyst layer 6 containing a noble metal such as Pt, Pd, Rh and Ag as the active component in the condition within the range of 1-20m/s linear velocity. The method for treating gas and device therefor which is capable of removing by combustion the bad smell component and the harmful component in the waste gas and excellent in operating property without clogging the catalyst layers 5 and 6 and without deteriorating the catalyst performance even if the waste gas contains much dust are provided. |
