<p>PURPOSE: To effectively and completely decompose an organic chlorine compound contained in a gas by irradiating the gas containing the organic chlorine compound with ultraviolet ray and subjecting the irradiated compound to biological treatment. CONSTITUTION: A gas containing an organic chlorine compound is irradiated with ultraviolet ray and next, biologically treated. As the organic chlorine compound, aliphatic saturated chlorine compounds, aliphatic unsaturated chlorine compounds, alicyclic chlorine compounds, aromatic chlorine compounds and another organic chlorine compounds are mentioned. The ultraviolet ray for irradiating the gas containing the organic chlorine compound includes one having the wavelength of <=300nm. At the time of absorbing the ultraviolet ray, the organic chlorine compound is converted to an intermediate product having chlorine atom bonded also with oxygen atom. The intermediate product is not completely decomposed only by the irradiation of the ultraviolet ray but has a property easily decomposable with microorganisms. Then, the intermediate product is completely decomposed to carbon dioxide in the next biological decomposition process.</p> |
