PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF ZIRCONIA POWDER

The stabilized zirconia powder is prepared by precipitating an aqueous zirconium salts and an aqueous solution of stabilizing agent's salts containing yttrium or cerium in the presence of ammonia solution of contant pH, separating a precipitate from the aqueous solution, and then washing; dispersing the above precipitate into an organic solvent which forms azeotropic mixture with water, carrying out an azeotropic distillation with the mixture, and removing the water content adsorbed and condensed on the surface of fine-particles; separating fine-particles containing zirconium from the organic solvent; and subjecting the above fine-particles to heat-treatment at 500-1200 deg.C
