The electrical lighting unit is based around a fluorescent light tube (1) that is formed with a circular shape that has the two ends (20) set at an angle and fit into a conical shade (3). The top end has a connecting socket (18) and coupled to this is circuit board (6) having surface mounted components (8) of the starter circuit. An insulating fitting (4) clips onto the lower end of the circuit board and this is shaped with projections (11) that fit around the light tube and supports it within the shade.
