Appts. for consistent measurement, test of stretch etc. of cloth items

An appts. for measuring and testing stretch and strength properties of flat textile structures,seams, rubber belts, waist bands etc. has two holders (12, 13) for the test item (20) on which is applied a test force at one of the holders which move w.r.t each other over a test section. Also claimed is a method for using the appts., the item being inserted between holders, force applied to move a holder along the section in the force direction, and properties determined. Pref. the appts. is portable with mountings (22) for fixing at a test location. Holders are set in a common U- or V-shaped, low friction, guide (14) or rail (49) and one holder can move continuously with a pointer along a scale on the guide. The test force, >= 20, pref. between 40 and 150 N, is tensile, measured by spring balance (28) with trailing pointer or by a weight, suited to item or test, attached to a cord running over a pulley and fixed at its other end to the holder attachment (27). Each holder, or pincers, have upper arm (41) and pad (25) closing on a lower pad (26) held by a guide plate, pads having a clamp breadth of 25 mm /!50% transverse to the test force, faces with roughened surfaces and the upper pad swivelling w.r.t. horizontal by /} 20 deg on its arm.
