PURPOSE: To obtain a phthalocyanine compound used as a near-infrared absorbing colorant useful for the formation of the recording layer of an optical recording medium and having high sensitivity, good recording characteristics and durability by adopting a specified moleclar structure. CONSTITUTION: The phthalocyanine compound is represented by the general formula I [wherein M is a pair of hydrogen atoms, a bivalent metal atom or a monosubstituted trivalent metal atom, a disubstituted tetravalent metal atom or an oxy metal atom; L<1> , L<2> , L<3> and L<4> are each a group of formula II or III (wherein R<1> and R<3> are each (un)substituted alkyl; and R<2> is 3-10 C linear or branched halo-alkyl or -alkenyl); X is chloro, bromo or iodo; and n is an integer of 1-11, provided that at least one of L<1> , L<2> , L<3> and L<4> is a group of formula II and not all of them can be a group of formula II simultaneously]. |
