PURPOSE: To obtain a transfer material generating no sticking phenomenon, having stable running properties and generating no blur or over-transfer, in a blaxially oriented film, by specifying the dispersing force component and polar force component of surface free energy and the center line average roughness and max. height of the opposite surface of the film to specific ranges. CONSTITUTION: A film for a thermal transfer film suitable for a thermal printer is composed of a biaxially oriented polyester film and the dispersing force component of the surface free energy on at least single surface of the film is 30-38 dyne/cm and the polar force component thereof is 4-13 dyne/cm and the center line average roughness of the opposite surface of the film is 0.02-0.50μm. The polar force component can be controlled on the basis of the amt. of the carboxyl terminal group of the film. The amt. of the carboxyl terminal group is set to 10-80eq/10<6> g, pref., 20-60eq/10<6> g. By providing a transfer ink layer on the single surface of the film, a transfer material for a variable dot printer is obtained. |
