PURPOSE: To transmit impact force positively in the axial direction of a steering column and prevent a column cover from coming in contact with a steering hanger. CONSTITUTION: Cutout parts 15 extended along the longitudinal direction of a steering column 1 are formed at the flange parts 14 of an upper bracket 13 for holding the steering column 1 from the peripheral lower part. Inclined parts 16 are provided at the end parts on the steering wheel side A of the flange parts 14. When the upper bracket 13 slips out of a steering hanger so as to be in a free state at the time of a vehicle collision, the flange parts 14 are slided along the lower face of the steering hanger to transmit impact force in the axial direction of the steering column 1. When the steering column 1 is contracted in large degree and the upper bracket 13 slips out of the steering hanger, the inclined parts 16 are brought into contact with the stepped part face of the steering hanger so as to avoid the interference between the steering hanger and a column cover. |
